for Playgrounds in Neiva, Colombia
ABOUT THIS MATCHING GRANT: The Monarch Beach Sunrise Rotary Club (MBSR) in Dana Point, California, has received approval from Rotary International to develop a Matching project that will purchase equipment for four school playgrounds. The playgrounds will benefit the first "pilot program Boys and Girls Club - Club de NINOS y NINAS" that operates at the Reynaldo Matiz School with 1,000 students and The Caguan School that benefit 500 children affected by the violence in Colombia. A total of 1,500 students will benefit. Both schools are public and they lack of playgrounds for the students of the two communities. They will benefit children from 5-14 years of age. The schools will also benefit from 3 computers for education and internet service. Also, 85 needed children will benefit from new school uniforms, sport uniforms, a backpack with educational materials, shoes and books. The participating Clubs are the Villa Park Rotary Club, The Yorba Linda Rotary Club, and the Laguna Niguel Rotary club, Monarch Beach Rotary Club and the Colombia, Neiva Club. The Neiva Rotary Club is actively working with a representative of the Secretary of Education in choosing the location for the playgrounds, equipment, design and installation. Members of the Neiva Rotary Club have visited both schools locations and have determined the locations that are most beneficial to the community. There will be an active supervision on use of equipment and completion of the project. The Neiva Rotary Club is also providing all the quotes and price comparison for the best and most efficient purchase of equipment and installation for playgrounds. They have the obligation to administer the monies and supervise the project. The equipment will be chosen for durability, weather resistance and safety. The cooperating USA clubs will require periodic reports for the project expenditure and continued monitoring after completion of the project via phone calls, emails and Skype. The time line of the project completion is one year after project approval. Click here to learn more about the Rotary Foundation's Matching Grant Lifecycle.
