    THE ROTARY FOUR-WAY TEST:

Of the things we think, say or do...
    1. Is it the TRUTH?
    2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
    3. Will it build GOOD WILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
    4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

    MBSR Immigrant Forum

This week's MBSR speakers on July 2nd were a distinguished panel of our fellow MBSR members who each spoke about what immigrating to the United States of America means to each of them. Our distinguished panel of speakers included (from left to right) Nan Eide (Canada), George Rendon (Ecuador), Zohreh Behbehani (Iran), Russell Kerr (New Zealand) dressed as Uncle Sam and MBSR's president Linda Hess. Their unique stories inspired the group as we look towards this Friday's 4th of July Independence Day Holiday.

MONARCH BEACH SUNRISE ROTARY'S 2008 YOUNG SINGER OF THE YEAR COMPETITION
This year's crop of 9 singers from Dana Hills High School's SOCSA program was a very talented bunch. At the direction of SOCSA's Artistic Director, Ray Woods, they competed with each other to move on to the YOUNG SINGER OF THE YEAR COMPETITION Semi Finals for Rotary District 5320 that will be at UCI CONCERT HALL on March 15, 2008, as rated by 3 judges.

This year, the club selected 4 of the 9 singers to move on to the district level, and we can be sure that will make us proud as they display their immense vocal skills. The four students going to the semi finals are Emma Werderman (freshman), Dana DeBano (junior), Taylor Wahl (junior) and Rachel Rothman (junior). Scroll down the page and you can watch and listen to the first, second and third place winners.

We were stirred, encouraged, comforted, amused, and inspired by these wonderful students; and certainly we were reassured that our local schools continue to produce substantial young people who are preparing to assume leadership roles in their and our world. What a privilege it is to have our small part in sponsoring them and encouraging them along their paths in life.

You can learn more about the YOUNG SINGER OF THE YEAR COMPETITION Semi Finals for Rotary District 5320 by clicking here.

    FIRST PLACE WINNER, EMMA WERDERMAN:

Emma sang "O Mio Babbino Caro" an Italian Opera by composer Giacomo Puccini.

    SECOND PLACE WINNER, DANA DeBANO:

Dana sang "Not For The Life Of Me" by Composers Jeanine Tesori and Dick Scanlan from the broadway musical Thoroughly Modern Millie.

    THIRD PLACE WINNER, TAYLOR WAHL:

Taylor sang "The Beauty Is" by composer Adam Guettel from The Light in the Piazza.
